Muscle tightness and fatigue
Thursday, May 12, 2016

The Summer is here and along with that the social calendar is starting to fill up, Ascot, Polo, Weddings and Regattas. After months of boots and wellies we ask our bodies to accept heels of differing heights and sizes and totter around, shortening our calf muscles and sometimes throwing our backs out, causing pain and frustration. We at Body and Soule realise you want to look your best at these special occasions but do ensure you understand the event you are attending and what you can do during the day/evening to alleviate muscle tightness and fatigue. Don’t be afraid to take your shoes off under the table and stretch out your calf muscles, dance on the floor without shoes, its quite invigorating!! If outside wedges are the way to go for a couple of reasons, 1, you won’t sink into the grass and 2, your weight is spread across your whole foot not just your heel and ball of your foot. Understanding how to stretch and also to prepare your legs for such an event, make sure you contact us at www.bodyandsoule.co.uk or call on 01491 614450.

Cyclists, Runners, and Swimmers
Thursday, May 12, 2016

With the improving weather all of us fair weather exercisers, be it cyclists, runners or swimmers will be getting ourselves ready to hit the hills, roads and pools. Maybe after months of limited action we are asking our bodies and muscles to spring into life and perform their best. Pushing ourselves to lose the pounds before the summer holidays are upon us we may initially attack the exercise regime a little ‘gun ho’. It is really important to tailor your exercise programme to reflect your fitness levels and look after your bodies after they have performed but stretching or booking yourselves a well deserved muscle treatment. By taking time to look after your body, if will respond by performing well in exercise and aiding you to lose those winter pounds. Massage treatments are a great way to not only make you feel better but we can help you understand how to avoid injury through stretching and additional exercises to support your own programme. For further advice or treatment please call 01491 614450 or visit www.bodyandsoule.co.uk.

Make your orthotic specialist aware of any other issues you may have
Thursday, May 12, 2016

I’ve recently had a spate of people coming into the clinic who have been prescribed orthotics for a variety of reasons. Although they have their place in ensuring our foot placement is aligned correctly it is really imperative you make your orthotic specialist aware of any other issues you may have, whether it be back, neck, bottom or leg issues. Although your orthotic is very likely to help with your foot placement it could well seriously affect other issues you already have or may develop. Ensure a postural analysis is carried out during or prior to attending your orthotic appointment, we can do this for you and write a report to them to advise on other postural issues you may have – we like to work with other treatment specialists in order to support your needs fully. Please contact us on 01491 614450 or www.bodyandsoule.co.uk for further information or a full postural analysis.

Gardening season is well and truly in flow
Thursday, May 12, 2016

The sun is shining and the gardening season is well and truly in flow. How many of us get up from the armchair and head straight out into the garden, dig, mow and hoe for hours, come back in sit down, have a cup of tea and then can’t move? Many!! We ask a lot of our bodies and after months of not bending and digging we are asking our legs and backs to spring back into action without any prior warning. It is really important to stave off the impending ‘gardeners back ache’ by ensuring you stretch your legs and lower backs well after your stint in the garden and before drinking that well deserved cuppa. Even if it is a simple bending forward from the waist and letting your arms dangle towards to floor, this will be an invaluable stretch and will help muscles recover from the work they have been doing. Don’t forget also, long baths with lots and lots of Epsom Salts to support muscle recovery too!
